British retailers are set to enjoy their best growth in Christmas sales since the start of the financial crisis, with online sales expected to jump 12% to £11.6 billion in the fourth quarter, compared to the same period of last year, according to research company Verdict. Online sales now represent around 13% of all retail sales and are growing much faster than overall retail sales, which will be up around 2% in Q4 according to Verdict – the highest level of increases since 2007.

Business customers therefore need to ensure that their connectivity is suitably equipped to meet such increasing demands. Serving customers in a timely fashion with accurate information, when they want or need it, will continue to be a leading factor in their choice of connectivity in and across their business.

This time of year gives you then the ideal opportunity to review with existing customers their connectivity requirements and determine what option would be best for them to consider upgrading to. Within synergi is the facility to run upgrade availability reports for your broadband customers so that you can identify which ones are, for example, able to move from a copper DSL connection to a fibre one.

The options don’t stop there of course. Market competition and wider availability are increasingly bringing Ethernet based services within reach of small and medium sized businesses who have historically been deterred from taking the step to more exclusive connectivity on the grounds of cost. GEA (Generic Ethernet Access) and EFM (Ethernet in the First Mile) products are now proving to be an ideal move for many business customers who are looking for a connectivity platform that fits with their expanding need for scalability, better access to information and faster and more secure transaction with customers. And the shorter lead times associated with GEA and EFM mean that customers could have the connectivity they need in place quickly.
